This site will help you to setup your PC. The most important point wheninstalling
an IDE YAMAHA CD-Recorder is the setting up of the PIO / DMA support.
We highly recommend (you)to setup your ATAPI / IDE interface to DMA - Support.
The document below shows the setup of a CRW 3200E with Windows XP.

Remark:
The DMA-Setup with Windows 2000 or with other YAMAHA CD-Recorders
is similar.

1. What is the difference between PIO- and DMA- Mode?
With Aheads Nero Speed you can easily check in which Mode your
Yamaha - drive is working.

First look at the reading performance of the YAMAHA CRW3200E with PIO-Mode.

You can easilysee that the reading performance is very poor. 40x reading
is not possible, as you can tell from the picture.

2. After enabling the DMA - Mode, the drive will read at 40X.

This effect also occurs while writing a CD at High Speed. This means that
the Safe-Burn - function has to stop the writing process several times.
In case of older YAMAHA CD-Recorder without Safe-Burn a Buffer Underrun can
occur.

Especially for CRW2100E users: If you are not able to burn a CD at 16X you should
check the performance with Nero - Speed.
